To paraphrase one of the very few great men of our time, “There you go again, Dr. Sowell.”
Abraham Lincoln once asked an audience how many legs a dog has, if you called the tail a leg? When the audience said "five," Lincoln corrected them, saying that the answer was four. "The fact that you call a tail a leg does not make it a leg."
That same principle applies today. The fact that politicians call something a "stimulus" does not make it a stimulus. The fact that they call something a "jobs bill" does not mean there will be more jobs.

The odd part is that the left doesn’t actually comprehend the real reason that we are pissed.

Anyone who reads this blog on a regular basis (Bless your soul) knows that I regard and treat Neal Boortz, radio and TV guy, with all the respect that he deserves, which is very little. He gets a kick out of demeaning people like me (a smelly, weak-willed smoker) at every opportunity. His latest rant stems from a report by "experts" that smokers are academically inferior to individuals such as he:
"Here's an idea! How about doing something that advertises your lack of education to the world! Light one up!So if you are looking to move to a productive society, choose a state where less people smoke. Besides ... those states don't smell as bad."
Mr. Boortz, I emphasized a portion of your learned post to point out that the correct expression in the context that you erroneously refer to as "less people" should be "fewer people". Also, some people might have said, "smell so bad" rather than "smell as bad". However, that quibbling aside, did you really mean to imply that the imaginary state itself was horribly odiferous?
Seriously, sir, why do you consider yourself so bloody smart?
Having been a resident of planet Earth for nearly sixty-two years, I have met a great many people. Never have I met a man named “Lindsey”. If ever I should have the misfortune of meeting the Senator from South Carolina, my record would be intact.
“Sen. Lindsey Graham said Sunday that he would help the White House convince his fellow Republicans to support closing Guantanamo Bay if President Obama reverses course and sends the alleged Sept. 11 mastermind and his co-conspirators to military tribunals. The South Carolina Republican is considered to be a key player in the administration's strategy to close the detainee camp at Guantanamo. He supports shuttering the facility…” [FOXNews.com]
Graham should become a Democrat, taking John McCain along with him.
Eight teenage boys were shot following an Atlanta rapper’s concert in Indiana Friday night.
The shooting occurred in the parking lot of World of Skates in Gary, where Waka Flocka Flame, aka Juaqin Malphurs, had just performed.
The victims were taken to three hospitals, where some remained Saturday. Police say they ranged in age from 14 to 18, with wounds in the legs, wrist, stomach or back. The injuries weren't believed to be life-threatening.
The Post-Tribune newspaper reported that a “hype man” entertaining the crowd before Waka Flocka Flame took the stage pitted “East Side” versus “West Side.” That might have prompted the shooting, Cmdr. Michael Mallett told the newspaper. [Source: ajc.com]

As someone of Swiss descent, I think that I qualify to speak for the entire population of Switzerland when I express my utter disappointment of this rash decision by the Swiss citizenry to exclude our furry, slimy, and/or differently texture-challenged cousins from proper legal representation.
When an animal requests legal counsel, he will be unjustly denied. That’s just cheesy, folks.
GENEVA – The result was emphatic: Swiss voters don't think abused animals need to have their own lawyers.
It's a proposal that would never even come near a referendum in other countries, but the measure's defeat Sunday disappointed animal rights advocates, who say Switzerland's elaborate animal welfare laws aren't being enforced.

Never have I heard anyone as disturbingly hateful against nicotine addicts as radio talker, Neal Boortz. When his attitude regarding this isn't pissing me the hell off, the tiny portion of my undersized brain devoted to gentlemanly sympathy feels a little sorry for the knucklehead. Maybe someone close to him was a smoker, and he was unable to reconcile his love versus his hatred for him or her. Perhaps a smoker kicked sand in his face as he bathed in the sun when he was a skinny adolescent devoid of masculine attributes that linger to this very day. Or maybe he's just a dick.
At any rate, check out the bile he spews in his blog, cleverly dubbed "Neal's Nuze".
"I mean, look: There is an advantage to being able to instantly identify someone as below average in intelligence. Sure ... you'll miss one every now and then, but by and large if you just assume that someone you encounter who smokes is not all that bright you're going to be right. Sure helps in a job interview. Look at the teeth. Look for yellow fingers. Use your sense of smell. If the cigarette warning light comes on offer them a job cleaning bathrooms.
"Oh .. and then there's the young women. Any male high school senior can tell you this: If a high school girl smokes she's having sex with someone. You parents need to pick up on this. If she's a smoker, when she comes in late from a date on Friday night .. when she takes off her clothes to get into bed that's probably the second time that night she's done that.
"Just trying to help you out here. Maybe you should introduce your smoking daughter to birth control."
From smoking to banging everyone in the Atlanta School District strikes me as a bit of a stretch. This brand of idiocy comes from the pen of a man who believes that the murder of unborn children is no big deal.
While we ponder your suggestions, Mr. Boortz, may we recommend that you undergo intense treatment by a licensed professional for your own shortcomings?

A common retort from those defending the generous compensation packages and iron-clad job security enjoyed by government workers is that these employees could easily earn far more for comparable work in the private sector.
Really?
A USA Today analysis of federal data -- published Friday -- found that in more than 80 percent of job categories, "federal employees earn higher average salaries than private-sector workers."
And this doesn't include the value of pensions and benefits. According to the review, federal worker pension and benefits averaged almost $41,000 per employee in 2008, vs. less than $10,000 per private worker.
Even those on the high end of the wage scale do well in the public sector. Surgeons on the federal payroll made an average of $176,050 compared to the $177,102 earned by the average private-sector cutter. For attorneys, the comparison was similar: $123,660 in the government job vs. $126,763 in the real world. Toss in benefits and guess who comes out ahead?
In fact, the "federal pay premium cut across all job categories -- white-collar, blue-collar, management, professional, technical and low skill," the newspaper reports.

The relatively new, hip phrase to use today is "moving forward". All the cool kids are saying it. Even the great and reliable automobile manufacturer, Toyota, has co-opted it for its corporate slogan. Unfortunately, most times one does not want his car to uncontrollably "move forward", which has become the bane of Toyota, as well as our very own nation.
Who can raise questions about something so benign and progressive sounding as "moving forward"? Isn't it ridiculous to advocate for "moving rearward" or even maintaining the status quo? We humans are constantly, and usually rightfully, striving to improve on everything in life. It is very difficult for mankind to look at a product or concept and declare, "There. That is perfect. Let's not mess with it." Those of us who knew our biological fathers may recall him saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." There is a difference between being perfect and being perfectly acceptable. Perfection is not within our grasp, despite the "experts" who declare an athletic performance a perfect ten, a numismatist grading a coin a perfect seventy, or a fellow pitching a perfect game. Perfection lies in a realm that mankind can never achieve on his own.
But this endless search for perfection propels us to indefatigably "move forward". We tweak and poke everything with which we come into contact, and almost invariably screw it up in the end. Take the everyday incandescent light bulb, for example. Thomas Edison "perfected" that simple device such that the world was changed forever with its introduction. For those who are sighted, the electric light bulb extended daylight, or a reasonable facsimile thereof, to an endlessly looping 24 hour cycle. One could actually work or play in a world that was previously dark about half the time. Writing a letter by flickering candlelight, while romantic, was no longer necessary.
In his quest to "move forward" an expert, or possibly two, decided that, for reasons that are fathomable only to him, the light bulb in its present incarnation was no longer suitable for use by civilized humans. So naturally he chose to develop an improved version using the noxious element, mercury, which could, when released into the atmosphere, produce a poisonous vapor, that could only be cleaned up effectively by a government funded hazmat team. The fact that the new and improved twisty light bulb produced less light than its predecessor lie on the periphery of concerns about the device since the experts pronounced it better for ignorant humans who are incapable of making proper decisions on their own.
But, "moving forward" is not limited today to mean only improving, or rather trying to improve, everything that is capable of being modified. It has also come to be used when implementation of an idea can be promulgated. "Senator, how will you move forward with your plan for health care?", one might ask. And "moving forward" makes a great denouement for situational analysts pronouncing the news in print or the electronic media. "We'll have to wait and see the outcome of the Congressional caucuses, going forward."
The acculturation of the phrase, "moving forward", and its varieties, used so frequently in this progressively attenuated society has become an increasingly trite device as an expedient for substantive discourse. Let's put it to rest.

Douglas MacKinnon asks a most reasonable question that the left finds to be an abomination. Why? They deplore the truth because it is their Achilles’ Heel.
I am honestly confused. Why is it not permissible for us to call President Obama a socialist? Why do so many with a media platform dodge the question when asked point-blank if Obama is a socialist?
While obviously expected from those in the mainstream media who look upon Obama as an oracle, it’s disappointing and disingenuous when Republican “leaders” refuse to describe the president as a socialist.
Maybe some in the GOP and the mainstream media simply don’t know or understand the definition. The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines “socialism” as: “Any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods”
Even with the broadest of interpretations, Obama’s beliefs seem to fall within that definition.
The reason the president recoils from the words “socialist” and “ideologue” is the same reason certain Republican politicians refuse to define him by those names: Political self-interest and survival. It’s the same reason the far-left duplicitously runs from the word “liberal” and now substitutes “progressive.”

Many on the left claim that tort reform will have minimal effect on the savings incurred if ObamaCare is enacted.
Why don't these bleeding hearts give a hot damn about the individual physician and his savings on insurance, or the potential doctor on her decision whether or not to enter the field in the first place?
Oh, I forgot. It is the "collective" that matters.
Why doesn’t the National Organization for Womyn scream bloody murder about this?
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates - A Saudi woman who filed harassment claims in Saudi Arabia without being accompanied by a male relative has been sentenced to 300 lashes and 18 months in jail, Human Rights Watch said.
Sawsan Salim lodged a series of complaints in 2007 at government offices and in court in the northern region of Qasim in which she accused local officials of harassment, the rights group based in New York said. She was sentenced in January on charges of making “spurious complaints’’ against government officials and appearing without a male guardian, the group said in an e-mailed statement received yesterday.

Juan Williams would have a fit if someone mentioned that the only reason Obammy is Prez is because he is half-Negro.
Liberals who simply cannot understand why Sarah Palin is so popular often attribute her success to her looks. The excuse conveniently allows them to sidestep any discussion of the issues she raises, and allows them to maintain a feeling of intellectual superiority to Palin and her supporters.
Fox News contributor Juan Williams, also a reporter for NPR and the Washington Post, was at a complete loss when Sean Hannity told him last night that he would rather Palin be president than Barack Obama. "Your libido is getting in the way of your thinking," Williams told Hannity.

This from little, demure Michelle Malkin:
“And no, I’m not talking about basketballs or baseballs or golf balls. You know what I’m talking about — excuse the language, but we need to be blunt. And you know that it’s the question that will hang over the Republican Party from now until November as it tries to persuade the base — let alone the American electorate — that it can provide a real alternative to the current crop of big government corruptocrats in power in Washington.
So: Does the GOP have enough balls to fight the Left or doesn’t it?”
Michelle Malkin » Question of the day: Does the GOP have enough balls?
We, frankly, are shocked!
Why don’t more Americans wake up to the terrible events happening daily before their very eyes? Part of the answer, in my opinion, is denial. Many are still enthralled with hope and change, sunshine and lollipops, unicorns and rainbows. Reality is too stark a truth for them, so they pretend, much like self-centered children.
Many members of the GOP missed the bigger significance of last week's Obama health care summit. In a manner unique in American history, a president claimed the authority to chair Congress, dictating items of legislation and belittling the democratic opposition. America separated from that system over two hundred years ago as tea plunged into Boston harbor. That's not the way things are done in America. President Obama must be restrained, or the beleaguered Constitution will be reduced to mere tissue paper.
President Obama exceeds his constitutional authority on a near-weekly basis. Just two weeks ago, President Obama made the chilling declaration that if Congress refuses to act, he will simply rule by executive decree. With Rahm Emanuel at the helm, this sort of unconstitutional sentiment should come as no surprise, but it certainly should not be tolerated. President Obama does not embody the will of the people; Congress does.
President Obama is given no authority under Article II of the U.S. Constitution to participate in legislation -- only the power to "take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed." The President holds the power to sign or to veto, and there ends his capacity for legislative input.

How do you feel about becoming a loyal subject of the crown? Far be it from me to suggest that there may be a violent revolution fought on our own soil once again. The left would call that crazy, and we certainly wouldn’t want to offend them. It would be far better for everyone if we just shut up, and accept whatever is decided for us by those infinitely wiser than we. Right?
